What causes the black streaks on my roof?
Those streaks are almost always a type of algae called gloeocapsa magma, which spreads across asphalt shingles and feeds on the limestone filler in the granules. It is common in humid, shaded, or coastal areas and is a cosmetic and long-term shingle-health issue, not a sign of a leak.
Is it safe to pressure wash a roof?
No, we do not recommend it and will not do it. High pressure on asphalt shingles strips the protective granules, shortens the roof's life, and can void a manufacturer's warranty. Soft washing kills the algae without that risk.
