Gutter cleaning and brightening

Two different jobs that get done together: clearing the inside, and removing the black stripes from the outside.

Clearing gutters is maintenance. Blocked runs put water over the edge and down the fascia, and at the shore that is how you end up with rot behind the trim board.

Tiger striping is the other half. Those vertical black streaks down the face of the gutter are an oxidised residue that ordinary washing does not touch, which is why gutters can look dirty immediately after the house has been cleaned. Brightening is a separate treatment applied to the gutter face itself.

What the service includes

  • All gutter runs cleared by hand and bagged
  • Downspouts flushed and checked for flow
  • Exterior gutter faces treated for tiger striping
  • Fascia and soffit rinsed
  • Any separated seams or loose hangers reported to you

How the job runs

1. Clear and bag

Debris comes out by hand and leaves with us, rather than being flushed into the downspout or onto the beds.

2. Flush and check

Every downspout is run to confirm it actually drains, which is where most blockages hide.

3. Brighten the faces

The exterior treatment that removes the black striping, applied after the inside is clear.

Common questions

Is brightening included with cleaning?

They are quoted separately because they are separate work. Most people who are having the house washed want both, since clean siding makes striped gutters obvious.

How often should gutters be cleared?

It depends far more on your trees than on the calendar. A house under pines needs it more often than one on an open lot.

Do you repair gutters?

No, but we will tell you what we found. Loose hangers and separated seams are visible from the ladder and worth knowing about.
