Why the shore is its own growing region
Coastal Ocean County is sand, not soil. Water and nutrients move straight through it, which is why turf and beds that would thrive twenty miles inland struggle here without amendment.
Then there is salt. Direct spray on the barrier island, salt-laden wind for a mile or two behind it, and brackish groundwater in low-lying areas. Plant selection is the whole game, and the right choice is different on a bayfront lot than on a wooded inland one.
