Garden design and planting
A plan that starts from your site's exposure and soil, not from a catalogue of what looked good at the nursery.
Design at the shore is mostly a selection problem. Get the species right for the exposure and the planting more or less takes care of itself; get it wrong and no amount of maintenance will save it.
We plan in layers, because that is what actually works on an exposed lot: a tough outer edge that takes the wind, and progressively less hardy material behind it as the shelter improves.

3. Prepare and plant
Beds are amended first. Planting into unimproved sand is the most common reason a new bed fails.
Common questions
Can I have hydrangeas on a bayfront lot?
Behind a windbreak, often yes. In direct spray, no, and we will say so rather than sell you plants that will scorch.
How long until it looks established?
Most planting reads as intentional in the first season and established by the third. Screening takes longest.
Do you do native-only planting?
We prioritise natives because they suit the conditions, but the plan is built for your site rather than to a rule.
